After you swallow the tablets, phenazopyridine passes into the urine and has a local pain-relieving effect on the lining of the urinary tract. It helps ease pain, burning, urgency and frequency while you arrange appropriate care for the underlying problem.

Relief can begin in as little as 20 minutes. The time it takes can vary, so an early response is not a reason to take extra tablets or delay getting advice about an infection.

A practical point: phenazopyridine turns urine reddish-orange. This expected colour change can stain fabrics and other items. It does not show whether an infection has cleared.

This is the US Maximum Strength tablet formula. It is different from AZO cranberry supplements, urinary test strips and Urinary Tract Defense products. Their ingredients, purposes and instructions differ.

Keep the Blisters Intact.

Store at room temperature, 15–30°C (59–86°F), in a dry place and protect from light. Do not use if any part of the blister is torn, open or damaged.

While taking AZO: stomach upset may occur; taking it with or after meals may reduce this. Your urine will become reddish-orange. This colour change is expected, but take care to prevent staining.
