Constipation tips
- Drink water and naturally sweetened fruit and vegetable juices to avoid dehydration. Staying hydrated will also help to make softer stools that are easier to pass.
- Incorporate more fiber into your diet slowly and ask your healthcare professional how much fiber is right for you. Good sources of fiber include: whole grains, legumes, fruits, vegetables and nuts
- Try to eat regular meals and keep your mealtimes on a schedule as much as possible to help with regular bowel movements. For example, eat breakfast at the same time each day and try to have a bowel movement 15 o 45 minutes after you eat
- Review your daily exercise routine. Are you doing any physical activity? Getting regular exercise may help to relieve constipation symptoms. Take time to jot down an exercise routine to incorporate into your week.* (*Source: National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases
